Abhilasha was a design workshop conducted at IIT Guwahati to introduce high school children to the design process and get them to start thinking critically.

In 2019, a special session was conducted by Dr. Uday Athvankar of IDC, IIT Bombay, to introduce teachers to design thinking and how it relates to their classrooms.

Work

As part of this workshop, we created supporting assets in the form of flash cards, organized by subject, to give teachers activities that inspire their students to think critically, while striking a balance between play and curriculum completion.

We realized that this was a needed because although teachers understood the need to help children understand the topics that they were being taught, they were unable to understand how the concept of design thinking tied back to their high school classrooms.

Content Design

This was a really fun exercise—we went through the school curriculum for grades 9—11 and came up with the most fun ways we could think of implementing the learning from it.

Topics covered included prompting children to create their own water purification systems, challenging their perceptions of how history is written and even asking them to create advertisements for products that they use in their daily life.
